How to stop hair breakage

Hair breaks when certain points in it thicken or weaken. This can take place near the scalp; in this case you will not be able to grow long hair. If your hair breaks at its ends, then you have split ends.

Causes of Hair Breakage

A big cause of hair breakage is improper use of chemical treatments, such as coloring, and perming.

If you brush or comb your hair too often or in the wrong way, this can lead to breakage. Hair extensions and braids can cause hair breakage as well. The problem can also be caused by a medical problem, like hypothyroidism, an eating disorder or deficiency in some vitamins.

How to Stop Hair Breakage

Try the following tips to stop breakage:

- Keep your hair moisturized. Your hair needs moisture, particularly when it is exposed to chemical treatments and heat appliances. Deep condition your hair, at least once per week.

- Use the right conditioner. Leave in conditioners are excellent. You can also use an all natural hair lotion.

- Shampoo your hair regularly. You should wash your hair at least once per week. Do not use cheap shampoos. It is best to use all natural hair care products that contain natural oils.

- Pay attention to the ends of your hair. If you notice split ends, cut them off immediately because splits can go all the way up your hair shaft.

More tips to avoid hair breakage:

- Comb your hair once daily.

- Use large tooth combs.

- Use a baby brush for smoothing your edges.

- Avoid using excessive heat. Use curling irons and blow dryers only when necessary.

- Sleep in a satin cap or on a satin pillow case.

- Take vitamins to help hair breakage: vitamin C and vitamin E
