Fringe Hair Style: Pros and Cons

Many of the hairstyle trends this season are worn with a fringe. The most stylish women in Hollywood are sporting a fringe and now you are keen to follow suit. Although the idea of getting a fringe seems alluring to you, it is important to first weigh the pros and cons before taking the plunge.

Pros

- The good news is that a fringe can be the perfect touch to liven up your hairstyle and give it an instant new look. Just about any hairstyle can look good with the correct fringe. This is a fabulous pro and possibly the main reason why they have become such a trend.
- If you enjoy following the latest trends, wearing a fringe is a great way to look highly fashionable. Almost all the Hollywood starlets are sporting some form of fringe. Further good news is that even though this is a current trend, they will generally stay in style.
- A fringe creates an instant chic look. If ponytails are your hairstyle of choice, a fringe will transform this ordinary look into an immediate elegant hairstyle. You can look sophisticated within a few minutes.
- You can hide a small or large forehead with a fringe. Cut it as long as possible and start further back on the head than normal, to make the most of a small forehead. The opposite will work for larger foreheads. Cut it longer at the temples than at the middle.
- You can hide a lot of imperfections. A fringe will cover up messy eyebrows or acne and no one will be able to see these little problems. This is obviously not a long-term solution to these problems, but if you are desperate, it could provide you with an instant fix.

Cons

- Even though a fringe can look great, not everyone enjoys having it. If you hate having hair in your face, then it is probably not the best choice for you. You can try to wear a longer, side-swept fringe and possibly learn to cope with it, rather than shorter styles. But depending on how you feel about having hair in your face, this can be a con.
- A fringe is high maintenance. Depending on the length of the fringe, you probably need to visit the hair salon often to get it trimmed. You may also need to spend a lot of time in the morning taking care of your fringe. It will possibly need to be blow-dried or straightened. If you are strapped for time, this is probably not a wise decision.
- A fringe can stick to your forehead. In humidity and during a work out, a fringe can absorb the sweat from your face and stick to your forehead. This is not a desirable look and definitely falls into the "cons" category.
- Stay away from a fringe if you have very curly hair or a strong cowlick. You can spend hours styling it in the morning until it looks great, but the very moment you encounter humidity, it will revert to its natural state. This could be an absolute nightmare.
- You don't understand how quickly hair grows until you wear a fringe.
